One of the important tasks of electrical utilities is to maintain the reliability of their transmission lines. Due to the growth in power consumption and transmission lines’ length their routine maintenance is a costly one.
Aerial inspection is an efficient way to maintain the grid when considering labor cost, time consumption, distances, topographic barriers and safety due to the high towers and long distances.
Ofil offers several aerial solutions; one of them is the DayCor®ROM, specially designed for inspecting transmission lines with helicopters and UAV’s. The system offers a combination of 3 highly sensitive sensors; UV camera, IR camera and HD TV camera in a gyro stabilized gimbaled payload. All three sensors enable the user a proficient and precise inspection of the lines in the safest way possible.
The DayCor®ROM is easily installed and it includes a control and display unit inside the helicopter, giving the user can full control and domination of the inspected lines.
The most important criterions of utilities is the safety of their human resources; With the DayCor®ROM safety is maintained during the whole inspection since the pilot can see the line clearly for long distances due to a narrow field of view and the horizontal distance from the conductors is 50-65 feets.
The average operational speed is 55-60 knots, at an angle of 30° in an altitude of 100-150 feet above ground (depending on the altitude of the tower) allowing a high speed inspection so that dozens of miles can be inspected in only one day helping reduce maintenance costs and duration.
The multi-spectral output of the DayCor®ROM system along with the GIS and control unit enables the user to have a powerful, real time, and full performance allowing utilities to improve their reliability and reducing maintenance costs.
